Yellowstone has closed for the summer and will open again on December 15th. On January 13th I will be heading to Yellowstone for almost 20 days to co-lead two different photo trips. Winter is an amazing time of year and I look forward to the snow and cold that provides a different look into the lives of Yellowstone Wildlife. ⁠

Well here is the last owl post for the day, again these photos don't do justice to my experience with them. It doesn't allow you to hear the low hoots of there call, or look into the eyes of one as it flys past just feet away. You wont be able to feel the water between my toes as I follow them through the forest on a rainy day or see the light stream through the trees as the clouds break. ⁠

If you have not been out in the woods close to your home it is time to. Go look for the owl you hear at night, see where the deer go during the day, watch the ducks swim at the local pond, find an excuse to get out. ⁠

My time photographing these owls at this location is short lived. As the snow will soon (today) be falling these owls will start making there was to lower elevations. In this area our average snow fall can be as much as 210 inches with that much snow it will be hard for the owls to hunt. ⁠

The environment where these owls were was incredib

The environment where these owls were was incredible a perfect location for photographing them. I am used to photographing owls in a lodgepole pine forest. Having these owls in a mixed forest of Engelmann spruce, old growth Douglas fir, and some quaking aspens was a treat. Add that with the mossy trees and it an incredible experience. ⁠
